With subtle sounds and poetic images, “Mali Blues” tells the stories of four extraordinary musicians in West African Mali who will never accept hatred, mistrust, violence or a radical Islam – neither in Mali nor in the rest of the world. International shooting star Fatoumata Diawara, Ngoni virtuoso and traditional griot Bassekou Kouyaté, young rap singer Master Soumy, and Tuareg guitar hero Ahmed Ag Kaedi – they all have something in common: their music connects, unites, consoles, heals and gives people the power to fight for a change and for a future in tolerance and peace. “Mali Blues” is a film about music. African Hip Hop meets the spirit of Jimmy Hendrix, Desert Blues meets danceable AfroRock. A film about the connective power of music that shines a hopeful light on Africa and its people in these turbulent times.
